Mumbai, May 2: Washington Sundar of Team India and Sunrisers Hyderabad has re-injured his bowling hand, according to SRH head coach Tom Moody, raising doubts over the all- rounder’s availability for the upcoming game against Delhi Capitals.
Washington, who returned to action against the Gujarat Titans after missing three games due to fractured webbing in his bowling hand, re-injured the same region while fielding against the Chennai Super Kings on Sunday (May 1).
Following that, in the Sunrisers’ 13-run loss against CSK, the off-spinner was unable to bowl a single ball. He did come down to bat, but he barely stayed in the middle for two balls.
“It’s very unfortunate that he had a knock on the same hand were he split his webbing. It had healed completely but he re-injured that area, it’s not injured to the point that he needs it re-stitched,” team coach Moody said.
“But unfortunately, it wasn’t in a state were he could bowl. It really did have an impact on for us in that early phase of bowling, given he has such a critical bowler for us,” he added.
Notably, Sunrisers struggled against CSK because their other bowler, T. Natarajan, was out with an injury for a long time. Kane Williamson was forced to rely on part-time spinner Aiden Markram and batting all-rounder Shashank Singh in their absence.
After a five-match winning streak, SRH have suffered back-to-back losses against Gujarat Titans and CSK. Next on Thursday, they will face the Delhi Capitals.
