New Delhi, Dec 23: Zimbabwe-born English all-rounder Sam Curran has become the most expensive player in the history of IPL auctions after he was bought for Rs 18.5 crore by Punjab Kings in Kochi on Friday.
The T20 World Cup player of the tournament was the subject of a fierce bidding war, with teams like Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants, and Punjab Kings raising their paddles frantically.

Punjab Kings ultimately spent the most money to acquire Curran, who received the highest-ever offer, surpassing the previous greatest purchase of Rs 16.25 crore made by Rajasthan Royals to secure South African all-rounder Chris Morris in 2021.
The second-highest earner was the Australian all-rounder Cameroon Green, who received a proposal of Rs 17.5 crore from the Mumbai Indians.
Ben Stokes, the captain of the England Test team, was the third-highest gainer, netting CSK Rs 16.25 crore after they edged Kolkata Knight Riders in yet another fierce bidding war.

As Sunrisers Hyderabad batter Harry Brook won Rs 13.25 crore, England players were in high demand. Brook began at a base price of Rs 1.5 crore and went on to hit three hundreds in as many games and set a new record for the most runs scored by an England hitter in a Test series in Pakistan.
