Dubai, Dec 12: Iran executed its second prisoner detained amid the nationwide anti-hijab protests now challenging the country’s theocracy. On Monday, the executed man was identified as Majidreza Rahnavard by the Mizan news agency, which is run by Iran’s judiciary.
Majidreza Rahnavard had been accused of fatally stabbing two security force members to death on November 17 in Mashhad and wounding four others.
Earlier, Iran executed the first prisoner detained amid the demonstrations on Thursday.
The anti-hijab protests that erupted after the death of 22-year-old Kurdish-Iranian woman Mahsa Amini in the custody of Iran’s controversial morality police have expanded into one of the most serious challenges to the Islamic Republic since its establishment in 1979.
