New Delhi, Oct 26: Istanbul is one of the five shortlisted locations to hold the IPL auction, which is anticipated to take place on December 16, according to a BCCI official.
Along with the Turkish city and Bengaluru, the auction’s traditional location, other contenders include New Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad. But when the IPL Governing Council meets for the first time soon under new chairman Arun Singh Dhumal, a definitive decision will be made.
“No final decision has been taken yet but we are looking at Istanbul. We haven’t met the teams and their officials in a relaxed environment since COVID, and this way we will be able to do that,” the BCCI official told PTI.
After speaking with all interested parties, a final decision will be made. This year’s event will be a mini auction, unlike previous year. By November 15, the ten IPL franchises have already been requested to submit their list of retained players.
For the upcoming season, the pay cap may be raised from Rs 90 to Rs 95 crore.
