New Delhi, April 18: A Delhi lawyer has written to India’s Chief Justice, NV Ramana, demanding him to investigate the Jahangirpuri violence.

Notably on Saturday evening, during a Hanuman Jayanti parade in Jahangirpuri, northwest Delhi, clashes erupted between two communities.

Stones were thrown and many vehicles were set on fire, according to the police. The violence resulted in the injuries of several people, including numerous police officers. At the parade, swords and other weapons were allegedly brandished.

To bring the situation under control, paramilitary soldiers were dispatched to Jahangirpuri. Along with the Delhi Police, the Centre has deployed roughly 200 Rapid Action Force members. Amit Shah, the Union Home Minister, spoke with the Delhi Police Commissioner and told him that law and order must be firmly enforced. He also told them to take the required action against the violence’s perpetrators.

“The Delhi Police investigation so far, has been partial and communal. The probe is directly shielding the perpetrators of the riot. This court even admonished Delhi Police for their failure to stop riots in 2020,” the letter by Delhi-based lawyer Amritpal Singh Khalsa read.

So far, 21 persons have been apprehended by police, including two juveniles. Lawyer Vineet Jindal has filed a PIL in the Supreme Court requesting an NIA inquiry into the Jahangirpuri riots to establish if ISIS and other terrorist groups were involved.
