New Delhi, May 3: JAIN (Deemed-to-be University), the KIUG 21 host, won the Khelo India University Games 2021 today. With 20 gold, 7 silver, and 5 bronze medals, the University team took first place, followed by Lovely Professional University (LPU) with 17 gold medals and Punjab University with 15 gold medals.
JAIN (Deemed-to-be University) swam to triumph, winning more than 20 medals in a variety of swimming disciplines. Siva Sridhar was the outstanding swimmer, capturing 11 gold medals, while Olympian Shrihari Natraj set a new record by winning three gold medals in a record-breaking performance. Shrungi Bandekar earned four gold medals in women’s swimming competitions.
The host university’s super racer Priya Mohan won the gold medal in the women’s 200m final, upsetting Asian Games champion and Olympian Dutee Chand. Priya won the competition in 23.90 seconds, with Dutee Chand of KIIT University coming in second with a time of 24.90 seconds. On Sunday, Priya Mohan won gold in the women’s 400m competition.
In the second edition of the Khelo India University Games, 3900 students from 210 universities competed in a total of 20 games. For the first time in the history of national sports, the Games featured indigenous sporting competitions such as Yogasana and Mallakhamba.
