New Delhi, Sept 5: With the installation of tap water connections in 13 crore rural homes, the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) has reached a significant milestone.
From 3.23 crore households in August 2019 to the current astounding number, this mission has increased rural tap connection coverage over the course of four years.
A press release from the Ministry of Jal Shakti stated that the Jal Jeevan Mission, which was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on India’s 73rd Independence Day on August 15, 2019, has been devoted to improving rural India’s access to reliable safe drinking water.
Currently, Goa, Telangana, Haryana, Gujarat, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Puducherry, Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are the six states and three union territories that have declared 100% coverage.
Regions like Bihar (96.39%) and Mizoram (92.12%) are also quickly approaching saturation.
According to the press release, in states and union territories designated as ‘Har Ghar Jal’ areas, villagers have verified that every household and public institution now enjoys an ample, safe, and consistent water supply.
Goa, Haryana, Punjab, the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Puducherry, Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli have all received this certification, the press release read.
Additionally, the Jal Jeevan Mission has made significant strides toward supplying tap water to schools and Anganwadi centres all around the nation.
At present, tap water supply is available in 88.73 per cent of schools and 84.69 per cent of Anganwadi centres.
