Jamshedpur, Feb 23: The court of additional district judge-I, Sanjay Kumar Upadhyay on Thursday sentenced Ahmed Masud Akram Sheikh to eight years of rigorous imprisonment for possessing firearms.
A resident of Razak Colony at Dhatkidih in Bistupur, Masud had been arrested jointly by a team of Delhi police and local police in 2016 for keeping a close link with al Qaeda and trying to radicalise local youths.
During a raid at his house, the police had recovered a nine MM pistol with a magazine having five live cartridges.
Masud’s arrest was made after the Delhi police had arrested Abdul Rahman Katki for playing a main role in spreading radicalism in Jamshedpur and its surroundings.
Masud who had already obtained training from Pakistan would meet Latki who is a resident of Cuttack in Odisha at the house of Mohammed Qalimuddin in Mango. Another man, Nasim Akhtar who would also meet Katki at Mango had provided the pistol to Masud for strategic use.
