Jamshedpur, Oct 18: A BJP activist with a criminal record sustained gunshot injuries as two bike-borne criminals attacked him near Basant Cinema under the Sakchi thana area on Tuesday afternoon.

Identified as Rajesh Singh, the saffron party activist was buying vegetables from the make-shift vegetable shops near the Basant Cinema at about 1.30 pm when he was attacked by the criminals.

Singh (42) was fired upon two shots. While one of the shots hit his right leg another one brushed past his left ear. Sensing further trouble, he covered himself behind a shop, causing the attackers to flee the spot.

Soon after a patrolling party reached at the scene and the victim was rushed to the Tata Main Hospital in a private car.

During a brief talk with a police officer, Singh told that both the attackers had covered their faces and thus he could not identify them.

Later Sakchi thana OC, Sanjay Singh arrived there and collected two empty cartridges from the spot.

“We will detect the attackers soon by taking out CCTV footage from the buildings near the crime scene, ” said the OC.

A resident of Mango, Rajesh Singh was accused in the Sanki Yadav murder case registered with the MGM thana in 2020 and was released from jail on bail recently.
