Jamshedpur, Sept 22: The Nikhil Bharat Banga Sahitya Sammelan, Jamshedpur chapter started their centenary year celebrations at The Milanee in Bistupur on Thursday.
The two-day celebrations started with flag hoisting of the convention and national song along with a ritualistic ‘kalash sthapna’.
Notably, dignitaries from across the city like entrepreneur Shekhar Dey and Achintam Gupta advocate Tapas Mitra; advisor of the Jamshedpur chapter Nikhil Dutta; Jamshedpur president Jharna Kar; secretary Shamita Rakshit and coordinator Purabi Ghosh were present at the programme.
The Nikhil Bharat Banga Sahitya Sammelan is an annual convention of Bengali literary personages of India that is held annually. The first convention was held in Banaras Central Hindu Boys School in Varanasi and was presided by Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore in 1923.
The day long programme started with speeches discussing how the Bengali language shall be propagated and the challeges in doing the same.
The inauguration was followed by a literary session and a cultural session in the evening. Members presented poetry recitation, dance dramas and music.
The celebrations that kicked off today shall continue tomorrow with a felicitation session followed by a cultural performance.
