Jamshedpur, Jan 11: The triennial elections of the Central Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (CGPC) began under tight security at its office located on the Sakchi Gurudwara premises on Wednesday.
In the election, in all 211 voters from 34 Gurudwaras and outfits like Central Stree Satsang Sabha as well as Akali Dal Central Naujawan Sabha are to use their franchise to elect the president.
Those in the fray for the post of the president are Bhagwan Singh, Mahendra Singh Bojha and Harbinder Singh Mindi. Once the elections are over, a new executive committee under the new president will be set up for running the CGPC which represents the interest of people belonging to the Sikh community in Kolhan.
The polling began at 10 am to continue till 3 pm. By 1.00 pm, 62 per cent of polling was completed peacefully.
According to a source in the CGPC office, polling is being held in the presence of two executive magistrates under videography.
“Except the Tinplate Gurudwara, functionaries of all the Gurudwaras from across the twin districts of Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan are participating in the elections, ” said the source while talking to lagatar24.com.
The Tinplate Gurudwara is out from the CGPC elections due to some persisting disputes in the Tinplate Gurudwara Committee.
