Jamshedpur, Sept 29: A 25-year-old youth, Harpreet Singh who had snatched a car and cash from an Ola driver in Sonari on Wednesday night was arrested within 24 hours of lodging an FIR by the victim.
Identified as Sanjit Deep, the victim had sustained grievous injuries in the neck and also in the fingers as the accused who is a drug addict had attacked him with a knife after reaching his destination in Sonari late in the night.
Revealing about the breakthrough, City SP, Rishabh Garg said that Harpreet and another youth had booked Ola from Regal roundabout at around 11.00 pm on Wednesday.
“Both the youths were to travel at separate destinations in Sonari. After dropping one of the youths, the Ola driver came to Pardeshipara where Hardeep paid the fair. But as the driver took out his wallet to return back some money, Hardeep suddenly attacked him with a knife and took away the car and his wallet which contained Rs 4,000 cash, ” said Garg while addressing a press conference.
Garg who is also SP (Rural) said the victim had sustained grievous injuries in the neck and fingers of both hands while saving himself from getting further injury.
According to the senior police officer, Hardeep hails from a decent family but having been addicted to drugs he had resorted to snatching.
According to the police officer, Hardeep was admitted at a de-addiction and had returned back home recently.
The police on Thursday afternoon sent Hardeep to jail after producing him before a judicial magistrate.
