Jamshedpur, August 13: Police on Saturday arrested four criminals, including an arms supplier, giving a boost in the drive against gun-toting elements in the steel city.
Those arrested were identified as Mohammed Chand (30), Mohammed Sarique (25), Md Subhan alias Shahrukh (24) and Aman Gaddi (32).
Police have recovered two pistols, one scooty and a mobile phone from their possession. The police are continuing the raids to find out more firearms.
Revealing the breakthrough, deputy superintendent of police (CCR) Animesh Gupta said that during an anti-crime checking drive in the city last night, a police party came across three scooter-borne youths on the Kadma-Sonari marine drive.
“At the site of a checking point, the three tried to escape having accelerated the speed of the two-wheeler by deviating from the usual route. But some mobile cops who were ready near the checking point chased the trio and ultimately succeeded in intercepting them at a little distance away. On frisking them, the police found a loaded pistol and ammunition from their possession, ” said Gupta while addressing the newsmen at Bistupur thana.
The DSP (CCR) pointed out that the three including a notorious criminal Mohammed Chand were on the prowl to commit loot on the marine drive.
He said that the loaded pistol was found from the possession of Sarique who is a resident of Dhatkidih in Bistupur.
“On being interrogated, Sarique divulged that he had bought the pistol from Aman Gaddi who is a resident of Millatnagar in Jugsalai. On the basis of the information from Sarique, a police team raided the house of Gaddi this morning and arrested him having found a pistol from his place,” said the senior police officer.
According to Gupta, Aman Gaddi used to procure pistols from the Munger district of Bihar and sell them to the criminals operating in the steel city.
Significantly, the DSP (CCR) informed that as the elements like Aman Gaddi bring the firearms to the steel city by bus, they would start random checking of the buses operating from Bihar, especially from Munger district soon.
