Jamshedpur, Jan 7: The heavy-weight politician Saryu Roy said his party Bhartiya Jan Morcha has identified 30 seats including the Jamshedpur East for contesting in the 2024 assembly elections.

Roy, who is a legislator from the Jamshedpur East assembly segment, pointed out that though his root still lies in the Sangh and RSS ideology, he is inclined to go ahead with his own agenda as the BJP’s top leadership is overlooking some serious snag in the party’s Jamshedpur unit set up.

The former BJP leader said this all while addressing a press conference at his residence in Bistupur at a time when Union Home Minister, Amit Shah was addressing a public meeting at Chaibasa, headquarters of West Singhbhum district.

Replying to a question, Roy said that presently he maintains equal distance with the BJP and the JMM, the leading party of the current ruling coalition government in the state.

It appears that the former BJP leader is not at all satisfied with the way the Hemant Soren government is running. He seemed to be equally aghast with the way the BJP’s Jamshedpur unit is silent over the state government’s failure on almost all fronts.

Moreover, it appeared that Roy is still expecting the BJP’s high command to pave way for his return to the original party provided that the latter rectifies the persisting snag in the local unit.

He did not clarify what exactly was the snag like, but it was obviously related to the former Chief Minister Raghubar Das.

Roy who holds self-respect at the top said during the 2019 assembly elections his candidature was not announced till the last day.

“Despite I was the sitting legislator from the party (BJP) from the Jamshedpur West seat, my candidature was held. I continued to seek a reply from the party leadership about the inordinate delay in the announcement of my candidature. Then only I decided to contest as an Independent candidate from the Jamshedpur East segment, ” deplored the former BJP leader.

Roy defeated the incumbent Chief Minister, Raghubar Das by a margin of over 16,000 votes though the former had chosen to contest the election from a new assembly segment.
