Jamshedpur, Feb 10: Mystery shrouds the death of a 30-year-old man who was fatally wounded while trying to bring his antagonised wife from her parent’s house back home.

The gory incident has taken place at deceased Nikhil Ray’s in-laws’ house in the Green Park area of Kadma at about 10 am on Friday, causing him to succumb to his injuries at the MGM medical college hospital at noon.

A resident of LIG Colony in Kadma, Ray had a quarrel with his wife Honey Singh on Thursday morning over the former habit of consuming excessive liquor.  Following the quarrel, the agitated wife left Nikhil’s house and came over to her parent’s place.

In the evening, Nikhil went over to his in-laws’ house at Green Park in a drunken state and persuaded his wife to come back home alone. But as his brothers-in-law, Vicky and Sunny, objected to his act, he became violent and started assaulting them in their house, leading them to call in the police.

A police party picked up Nikhil and kept him in the Kadma thana lock-up the whole night to release him in the morning only.

But as soon as Nikhil was released from the thana, he straightaway went over to Green Park with a knife.  Having reached Green Park, Nikhil asked his wife to come along, but as she refused to do so and other in-laws too objected vehemently, he fished out the knife and started hitting himself repeatedly until he did not fall down in a pool of blood.

Though Nikhil was writhing in pain on the ground, no one came to his rescue.  A police party reached the spot upon getting the information and rushed him to the medical college hospital where he succumbed to his injuries in an hour.

But the deceased’s mother Pappa Ray has alleged that her son was killed by Vicky and Sunny.

OC, Kadma thana, Ashok Kumar Ram said though it is a case of suicide, they have started an investigation into the murder angle also following an FIR lodged by the deceased’s mother in connection to the death of Nikhil Ray.

“We have sent the body to the MGM medical college’s mortuary for postmortem so that the truth can be logically established. We are also taking statements of those concerned while carrying out the investigation,” Ram said while talking to lagatar24.com.

Nikhil and Honey had married in 2017 following a prolonged affair, but their relationship soured after he turned alcoholic.
