Jamshedpur, July 22: The Jamshedpur plant of Tata Motors will remain shut for two days from today because of a block closure declared by the company.
This is the first block closure in July. The company had undergone a three-day block closure from June 22 to 24 and again four days closure from June 28 to July 1.
Tata Cummins which manufactures world-class engines for the automobile sector has not declared shutdown.
Industry sources said Tata Cummins which manufactures engines was likely to take a shut down next week.
Tata Cummins which supplies engines to Tata Motors had witnessed a block closure lady month between June 29 and July 1.
The Jamshedpur plant of Tata Motors produces heavy commercial vehicles like trucks, trailers, tippers, buses and other multi-axle vehicles.
The employees of Tata Motors have been asked to report for duty on July 27 (Monday) as July 26 is Sunday, the weekly off at the company.
The workmen affected by block closure shall avail their privilege or casual leave for 50 per cent of the day and for the remaining half of the period they shall be paid their normal wages/salary by the company.
The two-day closure will prevent unnecessary build-up of inventory in the company as well as at the dealers’ end.
Production in Tata Motors ancillary units at Adityapur and Kandra in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district would also get affected due to the block closure.
Most of the 700-odd ancillary units will remain shut for two days while a few others have decided to reduce the number of shifts.
