Jamshedpur, Jan 18: Acting on a tip-off, a team of Jamshedpur police nabbed a lottery racketeer by a betel shop at Galudih in Ghatsila sub-division about 40 km away from here this afternoon.
While raiding the shop, the police team recovered Rs 20.8 lakhs and five notebooks from the shop owner identified as Gautam Mandal who was running the racket online lottery business from there.
Revealing the breakthrough, senior SP, Prabhat Kumar said that there was one more person at the betel shop when the police team raided it.
“But the man who is suspected to be the kingpin of the lottery racket managed to escape. But the team succeeded to arrest the shopkeeper who was running the racket in the guise of a paan shop,” Kumar said while addressing a press conference.

The senior SP said the lottery is banned in Jharkhand, but the arrested person was running the business online. He stated that it was the lottery of Nagaland state.
According to the senior police officer, there is a Whatsapp group of those who participated in the lottery online. He pointed out that the payment for the lottery tickets is also made online. He said they are trying to ascertain the period of time the digital lottery business was going on at Galudih.
The senior SP that the police have already known the kingpin’s name and whereabouts and he would also be arrested soon.
