Jamshedpur, Jan 28: A notorious drug peddler Afsar Ali was arrested by Jamshedpur police soon after he was released from the Seraikela divisional jail.
A team of police officials from Sitaramdera thana arrested Ali as he was wanted in a case under Arms Act registered with the said thana since June 2022.
Revealing the breakthrough, OC, Sitaramdera thana, Meghnath Mandal said that Ali would earlier reside at Adityapur Muslim Bustee in Adityapur where he used to run the business of selling brown sugar.
He pointed out that during a concerted effort by the Seraikela-Kharsawan police to arrest Ali after nabbing lady drug kingpin Dolly Perveen in July 2020, his wife Salma Khatoon shifted their residence from Adityapur Muslim Bustee to Sitaramdera in the steel city. Having come to Sitaramdera, Salma started drug peddling there and was arrested in June 2022.
“During Salma’s arrest, the police had recovered a pistol, a large quantity of brown sugar, Rs 6.5 lakhs cash and 36 grams gold from her house. It was during the interrogation that Salma revealed that the unlicensed pistol belonged to Ali only. On the basis of the confessional statement made by Salma, we had booked him in the same case,” said Mandal while talking to lagatar24.com.
The OC said they were keeping track of Ali’s attempts regarding his bail in the case and as soon as he was released from the Seraikela divisional jail, he was arrested.
The OC revealed that their focus was on Ali’s arrest as they were certain that the criminal would resume the drug peddling business here at Sitaramdera once he is out on bail.
After Ali’s arrest, he was today lodged in the Ghaghidih central jail where his wife Salma is cooling her heels for bail.
