Jamshedpur, Nov 21: The city police, acting on a tip-off, nabbed two persons with 320 packets of brown sugar from the Chhotanalah locality under the Mango thana area.
The two were caught when they were indulged in the transaction of narcotic drugs with a local guy in a stationary SUV near the Chhotanalah on the Mango-Pardih road.
Revealing the breakthrough, superintendent of police (city) K Vijay Shankar said at a press conference on Monday that one of the accused identified as Sanjay Kotal (49) was handing over the consignment to a local guy identified as Sanatan Gorai.
“But while the drugs packets were changing hands, a team led by deputy superintendent of police (headquarters-I) Birendra Kumar Ram swooped over the SUV and caught the two,” said Vijay Shankar.
He said while 100 packets were recovered from Gorai, a resident of Sankusai in Mango, 100 packets were recovered from Kotal who is a resident of Jhargram in West Bengal and had come by SUV for selling the drugs here. He pointed out the remaining 120 packets were seized from the SUV.
The City SP said 1.5 quintals of fish were also loaded in the SUV which was also seized during the raid.
Vijay Shankar said the police succeeded to nab the drug smugglers on the information given by a local resident. He said though police have their own network, the local residents should also act proactively in curbing the sale of brown sugar like the one did, adding that the informer’s identity would be kept secret.
