Jamshedpur, Oct 6: Police today solved the Ranjit Singh murder case by arresting two of the four assailants involved in it. The case had been registered with the Telco thana on October 3, 2022.
Those arrested were identified as Rahul Gupta (24) and Anil Kumar (45), both residents of Ulidih in Mango and Adityapur respectively.
The pistol used in the murder has also been recovered beside the empty cartridges.
Ranjit Singh (40), who had also criminal records, was murdered as he had spat on the face of Rahul Gupta during the time when both them were lodged in the Ghaghidih Central Jail recently, causing the later to vow to take revenge.
A resident of Namda Bustee in Golmuri, Ranjit Singh was shot dead by four bike-borne criminals near the Sabuj Kalyan Sangh Durga Puja pandal in Telco on Monday afternoon while he was visiting the Puja pandal along with his children. The assailants had covered their face with scarps and had fled the murder scene.
Ranjit Singh was soon rushed to Tata Main Hospital where he was declared dead.
Revealing about the breakthrough, senior SP, Prabhat Kumar said that soon after the murder took place, he had set up a team to unravel the murder mystery.
“The team which was being led by SP (City) K Vijay Shankar had detected the persons involved in the murder within five hours of the murder, but arresting of two of the accused was made today only, ” said Kumar while addressing a press conference.
The senior SP said that both Ranjit Singh and Rahul Gupta were at the same ward in the central jail sometime in April this year when they had a clash.
“During the clash, Ranjit had assaulted Rahul and spat on his face, causing him to get immensely humiliated in front of other jail inmates. Then only Rahul had determined to avenge the insult by killing him after they came out of the prison, ” he quoted Rahul as saying.
According to the senior police officer, Rahul was released from the jail on bail earlier than Ranjit. He said Ranjit was released on bail on September 22.
“As Rahul was keeping a tab on his enemy, he had started planning to kill him, having come to know about his release from the jail. Ultimately, by following the victim’s movement closely, Rahul succeeded in getting his plan executed on October 3 afternoon by shooting his enemy himself, ” the senior SP pointed out.
He said the remaining two accused have also been identified and the police team is trying to arrest them too as soon as possible.
Significantly, Anil Kumar, the other accused in police custody was injured during a chase by the police before he was finally caught, but the arrested person is presently undergoing treatment for his injury at the MGM Medical College Hospital.
