Jamshedpur, Jan 24: The body of a 22-year-old girl was found hanging from a tree at a forest stretch under the Kandra thana area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district about 18 km away from here on Tuesday morning.
Notably, the body which is yet to be identified is suspected to be that of a murder victim.
Police suspect unknown assailants might have hung the body on the branch of a tree having strangulated her to death somewhere else.
The deceased seemed to be from a moderate descent family as she had put on jeans pants and a Kurti of matching colours.
The police recovered the body and sent it to the Seraikela Sadar Hospital for postmortem after keeping it near the spot for its identification.
OC, Kandra thana, Rajendra Prasad Mahto said the body was found in hanging condition at Lakhan Singh Ghati along the Kandra-Chowka road.
“Some workers who were near the spot while carrying out road construction work had first spotted the body. After a while, we were informed. A police party reached the spot and recovered it after carrying out an initial investigation, ” said Mahto while talking to lagatar24.com.
The OC said this might be a case of murder but the exact cause behind the death could be known after the autopsy only.
