Jamshedpur, Feb 13: The body of a 29-year-old man was found hanging from a tree in a jungle along the Sanjay river under the Seraikela thana area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district, about 30 km away from Jamshedpur, on Monday.
The deceased, who was later identified as Shiv Kumar Mahto, was a railway employee and had divorced his wife just a week ago.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the MGM medical college mortuary where a postmortem would be conducted under a medical board.
A resident of Tentoposhi village in Seraikela, Shiv Kumar had gone to take bath in the river on Sunday afternoon but did not return home, leading the family members to search for him. His body was found hanging from a tree in the jungle about two km away from his house.
The deceased was posted at Sini railway station as a clerk and had married two years ago.
OC, Seraikela thana, and Nitish Kumar said this might be a case of suicide but there is no apparent reason behind such a drastic step by the deceased.
“Though it seems to be a case of suicide we have decided to get the postmortem by a medical board as there is no apparent reason behind such a drastic step by the deceased. In fact, we want to get doubly sure that this is a case of suicide only,” said Kumar while talking to lagatar24.com hinting that this might be a case of murder also.
