Jamshedpur, Sept 10: A group of women on Saturday staged a dharna in front of a general store to prevent police from demolishing it as a punitive measure at Ranikudar under Kadma police station area of the city.
The shop in question was left over during a demolition drive resorted to by the police, apparently in the line of what goes on against criminals in Yogi Adityanath’s regime in Uttar Pradesh.
As owner of the general store, Rajkumar Singh was indulged in an assault case, the police razed a car-washing center and a hardware shop on Friday and warned to demolish the general store, all set up on encroached land in Ranikudar.
Rajkumar Singh who is accused along with five-six other in the assault case registered with the Kadma police station on September 5 has absconded, SP (City) K Vijay Shankar prompted to demolish the accused’s unauthorised shop and business establishment immediately.
“We decided to demolish a hardware shop and a car-washing center owned by the accused Rajkumar Singh because he was not only indulged in an assault case, but was also harbouring criminal elements in his business premises set up on encroached land. I have to maintain law and order in the city and I will do whatsoever way is deemed fit fir a situation,” said Vijay Shankar while talking to lagatar24.com.
The city SP who himself was present during the demolition drive said that he had got it verified from the office of the Dhalbhum sub-divisional office that the land on which the car-washing center and hardware shop beside another shop were set up was encroached upon.
The senior police officer pointed out that they came to know about unauthorised shops and car-washing center from the mother of the assault victim Kittu Singh who is struggling financially his life at the Tata Main Hospital.
Vijay Shankar said the remaining shop set up by Rajkumar Singh will also be razed soon, kin of the accused concerned have already been intimated.
During the immersion procession of the idol of Lord Ganesha, Rajkumar Singh, Aman Mishra, Lallu Singh, Akhilesh Singh and two other had attacked Kittu Singh with lethal weapons on the way to the Bodhanwalla Garbage ghat in the Kharkai river on September 5 night.
According to police, the victim Kittu Singh who is a resident of Ranikudar like the accused had old enmity between themselves. One of the accused had even threatened Kittu Singh with dire consequences by going over to the house of Kittu Singh.
