Jamshedpur, Dec 24: A noble gesture by the Jamshedpur police led 59 persons to get back their mobile phones today after either losing them in various police station areas in the steel city.
SSP Prabhat Kumar who had taken the unique initiative after joining the East Singhbhum district in July this year distributed the recovered mobile phones back to the bonafide owners at a function organised in the Bistupur thana premises on Saturday afternoon.
“We were getting a large number of complaints of mobile phones either getting lost or stolen in the different police station areas of the city. Keeping the people’s predicament in view, we had launched a drive to trace out such stolen or lost handsets by using our technical cell. Ultimately, we succeeded to trace and recover 88 mobile phones,” said Kumar while addressing a gathering of those aspiring to get back their mobile phones.
All the 88 such persons whose mobile phones were recovered had been intimated by the police concerned, but only 59 of them had turned up at the function.
Speaking on the occasion, the senior SP said that they have categorised the process of lost mobile phone detection into two types.
“In the first phase, we had focussed on the lost or stolen mobile phones that were being used in the steel city. After Achieving success in the form of recovery of 88 mobile phones, we will start to trace such gadgets which have been taken out of the city or even out of the state,” explained the senior police officer.
Earlier, if anyone would lose one’s mobile phone, he or she would lodge an FIR with the police station concerned. The chances of getting back the lost handsets were very meagre. Such lost mobile phones could be recovered only when any gang of mobile phone lifters is caught.
Moreover, the victims would lodge complaints with the police station to ward off any unseen complications in the event of one’s mobile being in the possession of unknown criminal elements.
One of the recipients who got back her mobile phone thanked the Jamshedpur police for giving back her handset.
“My mobile phone was snatched by two bike-borne criminals in Mango in April this year. I had forgotten about getting it back but had reported the matter to the police only to save myself from any future complications. But it was a delightful moment for me when I got an intimation from the police that the snatched handset which was worth Rs 12,000 has been recovered, ” said a lady while talking to the lagatar24.com correspondent.
