Jamshedpur, Jan 5:  In a tragic incident on Thursday, a man riding a scooter was crushed to death by a truck at the Agrico traffic signal. The victim, an employee of a private construction firm was identified as Dev Kumar Senapati and was wearing a helmet.

A resident of Sidhgora, Senapati was returning home during lunch break when he met with the unfortunate fate.

The killer truck tried to flee the spot soon after the mishap but local people chased the truck and got hold of it. The driver was later handed over to the police, who reached the spot soon after the mishap

The cops also seized the truck. According to police, the victim died on the spot after coming under the wheels of the truck. The body was sent to the MGM Medical College in Dimna for post-mortem. Police are trying to get more details.

The incident took place 300 metres away from the residence of former chief minister Raghubar Das. Eyewitnesses said the mishap took place due to overspeeding by the heavy vehicle.

Notably, overspeeding is a common phenomenon in the steel city. Despite efforts by the traffic department, it goes unchecked resulting in the loss of innocent lives.
