Jamshedpur, May 26: A gang of miscreants allegedly decamped with Rs 4,000 from a young Rapido operator after assaulting him on the Marine Drive under the Kadma thana area.
Though the incident took place in broad-day-light on Tuesday, the victim Prince Sharma lodged an FIR with the Kadma thana on Thursday night only, leading the police to swing into action today.
A resident of Naya Bazaar in Jugsalai, Prince Sharma (24) was returning to his office by riding his Scooty having dropped a passenger somewhere in Sonari on Tuesday afternoon when the incident took place.
According to the FIR, the miscreants had stopped him near a liquor shop and started hitting him with belts, empty beer bottle and with a helmet before snatching his wallet which contained Rs 4,000.
During the period, when he was being thrashed two more miscreants joined the gang in the assault. Later, he somehow managed to save his life by fleeing the spot with his vehicle.
According to the FIR, as the victim was injured and traumatised, he delayed lodging the complaint at the police station.
The police today started an investigation into the case and have also derived CCTV footage of the incident.
“The assault part of the complaint is true but whether the victim was robbed of Rs 4,000 is being probed, ” said the Kadma thana OC, Ashok Ram while responding to lagatar24.com.
Ram said they have identified some of the miscreants who indulged in the assault and claimed they were trying to arrest them.
“Ever since a liquor shop was opened along the Marine Drive incidents of hooliganism and snatchings have begun to take place surrounding the shop. Police cannot provide protection to the commuters all the time,” observed the OC, adding that he would recommend shifting the liquor shop from there soon.
