Jamshedpur, Oct 21: The IX class student of Sharadamoni Girls High school School, who had set herself on fire after being humiliated by a school teacher on Oct 14, succumbed to her burn injuries at the Tata Main Hospital’s burn care unit late last evening.

The student, Ritu Mukhi, had set herself on fire by pouring kerosene oil at her house on October 14 night after the teacher had stripped her on suspicion of cheating during an examination.

As the erring teacher, Chanda Das, had stripped the victim in front of her fellow students in the class itself, Ritu could not bear the humiliation and she took the drastic step.

The victim who sustained above 60 percent of burns had revealed the humiliation meted out to her before her parents before being rushed to the hospital.

After the matter came into the limelight involving the Sakchi-based girls’ high school, the people belonging to the victim’s community and members of several political parties protested the lady teacher’s actions, and the police had to arrest the teacher the next day.

Getting the information about the girl’s death, the East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner, Vijaya Jadhav had reached the Tata Main Hospital in the night and consoled the bereaved family members there.

The DC instructed the autopsy of the body under a three-member medical Board to make a strong case against the teacher who is presently lodged in Ghaghidih Central Jail.

Earlier, Jadhav had instructed the Dhalbhum SDO to set up a team of administrative officers to probe the matter meticulously.
