Jamshedpur, August 31: Two minors sustained splinter injuries as a country-made bomb they had picked up from a bush near their house went off at home.
The incident took place today at Majhitola, a densely-populated slum under Adityapur thana area in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district, about four kms away from the steel city.
The victims identified as Durga Hembram (12) and Singhhrai Hembram (15) were rushed to MGM medical college hospital for treatment of the injuries.
The blast took place as the boys who were siblings starter pricking the bomb for taking out gunpowder from it.
OC, Adityapur thana, Rajan Kumar who rushed to the spot immediately confirmed the bomb exploded as the two minors were playfully pricking it, but he said what intrigued the police as to why the explosive item better known as “sutli bomb” had been concealed in the bush.
“During investigation we found that the country-made bomb was kept in the bush on the residential premises of Chintamoni Gope, a woman known in the locally for her notoriety. Having come to know about the fact we have sealed the house of Chintamoni for further investigation, ” said the OC talking to lagatar24.com.
Rajan pointed out during the investigation they established that Chintamoni’s house like the houses of many others at Majhitola is built on an encroached government land.
“But what makes Chintamoni to come in the firing line is that the woman in question runs a racket selling encroached government land by waging a war with other local goons who are also indulged in the same racket, ” said the OC.
He said he would launch an operation against such land grabbers in Majhitola and other places in Adityapur soon.
