Jamshedpur, Sept 3: Vivek Vidyalaya bagged the overall champions trophy at Blaze, an inter-school event organiSed by SDSM School for Excellence on their premises on Saturday. DBMS Kadma High School came a close second and lifted the runner-up trophy.

More than 200 students from 12 city schools participated in the inter-school competition that was organised to showcase students’ talent in different skill areas. The participating schools at Blaze were AIWC Academy of Excellence, Motilal Nehru Public School, Baridih High School, Chinmaya Vidyalaya South Park, Baldwin Farm Area High School, Shiksha Niketan, DBMS Kadma School, Jusco School, South Park, Vivek Vidyalaya, SBM high School, Tarapore School and the host SDSM School of Excellence. XLRI professor Sanjay Patro inaugurated the ceremony as the chief guest.

Students participated in different events that tested their skills in the given area. Apart from stage events like dance, singing, rock band performances and fashion show, school teams also participated in comic strip making, one-shot play, documentary making, quizzing, English elocution, character enactment, stone painting, facial representation, pencil sketch, war of words and science model making.

“Students are creative and it is in these events that we understand their true ability. With skills at hand we would really hope students present here to be the Sundar Pichais (referring to the Google CEO) and Indra Nooyis (former CEO and chairperson of Pepsico) of tomorrow,” said Patro while addressing his inaugural speech.

The teams were given code names of Indian states to maintain anonymity in the decision-making by the judges. The winners received trophies and certificates. The guest at the valedictory session was entrepreneur Pratibha Mohanty.

“Students should get an opportunity to showcase their skills and what better than a platform where other schools come, participate and learn from each other,” said the principal of SDSM School for Excellence Moushumi Das.
