Jamshedpur, Feb 7: A 22-year-old youth was electrocuted while dismantling a loudspeaker from a tree at Lankatola under RIT thana area in Adityapur on Monday morning.
The victim, identified as Sudama Sharma, who used to work under a local tent-house was electrocuted after coming in contact with an overhead high-tension while dismantling the loudspeaker fixed during the Saraswati Puja.
The incident took place at about 11 am in full view of several local residents.
“After the immersion of the Goddess Saraswati’s idol on Sunday, the tent-house operators had started dismantling the puja pandal and also the sound system. While dismantling the sound system from a branch of a tree, the victim came in contact with 11 KV line and fell down. We all rushed him immediately to Tata Main Hospital where the doctors on emergency duty declared him as dead, ” said a local youth, Amit Sinha.
Amit said as it was a fatal mishap the residents had informed the RIT thana for the necessary investigation.
Soon after a police party rushed to the spot and inspected the mishap scene and also took statements from the residents.
OC, RIT thana, Mohammad Tanzil Khan said they are looking into whether there was any shortcoming on the part of the Jharkhand Bijli Vitaran Nigam Ltd (JBVNL)behind the electrocution death.
“The investigation into the electrocution death of the youth is on. If it is found that the mishap took place due to the fault on the part of the JBVNL, then we will take action against the power company, ” said Khan.
A pale of gloom descended in the densely-populated Lankatola locality after the electrocution death.
