Jamshedpur, March 22: The court of additional district judge – V, Sanjay Kumar Upadhyay on Tuesday sentenced a youth to 25 years imprisonment for making a teen conceive on the pretext of marrying her.
In addition to the imprisonment, the court has slapped a penalty of Rs 50,000 on the accused, failing which he will have to serve another one year in jail.
A resident of Kalapathar panchayat in Ghatshila, the accused, Dinesh Hansda, (28), was lodged in Ghatsila Sub-jail ever since he was arrested in June 2020.
According to the prosecution, the accused in January 2019 had befriended the 15-year-old girl who is a resident of the same village as Dinesh and started sexually exploiting her.
According to the prosecution, for keeping the victim mum, Dinesh had promised the girl to marry her during this period. But eventually, after she was about six months pregnant, the development of the girl’s physical condition attracted the attention of the family concerned. On being asked by her parents, she confessed about her relationship with the accused.
Having come to know everything, the victim’s father had immediately informed the village head for convening a ‘Panchayati’ over the matter. In the ‘panchayati’, Dinesh’s father agreed to marry his son with the victim, but Dinesh did not obey the panchayat’s verdict.
It was after Dinesh had refused to marry the pregnant girl that the victim went over to the Chakulia thana along with her parents and lodged a complaint against Dinesh.
The accused who used to work in an industrial unit at Chakulia was immediately arrested by the police and put up in the Ghatsila Sub-jail.
After pronouncement of the sentence in the Jamshedpur civil court, Dinesh was shifted from the Ghatsila Sub-jail to Ghaghidih Central Jail immediately.
