Jamshedpur, March 15: In a significant action by the police, a 25-year-old youth was arrested within half an hour after he opened fire at a place under the Kapali thana outpost under the area in adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district close to the Mango locality of the Steel City.

While arresting the accused identified as Saddam Hussain, the police recovered a pistol and two live cartridges from his possession.

Hussain, who is a resident of Kapali had fired several rounds of shots in the air near a community hall at Dangerdih situated along the Dobo-Kanderbera Road at about 9 pm on Tuesday. The shots were apparently aimed towards creating an atmosphere of terror in the locality.

However, a patrolling party which was around soon swung into action and detected the accused, who was moving on a bike toward the Kapali TOP. The police team subsequently succeeded in nabbing him after a hot chase.

On being searched, the police found the pistol and two live cartridges from the accused.

SDPO, Chandil, Sanjay Singh under whose jurisdiction Kapali TOP falls said they are interrogating the arrested youth the source he had procured the pistol and about his intention behind firing the weapon.

The Dobo-Kanderbera Road linking the steel city with the NH-33 has become important after the Domuhani bridge was constructed in the recent past. As large numbers of commuters use the road for communicating between Ranchi, and Chandil beside other places from Jamshedpur, criminal elements tend to commit crimes like snatching and looting on the road after sunset.
