New Delhi, March 15: The Delhi Police stopped an opposition party leader march to the Enforcement Directorate office on Wednesday shortly after it left Parliament. The leaders are calling for an investigation into the Adani matter.
The leaders of the demonstration have been warned by the Delhi Police that if they do not end the protest, they would be imprisoned since Section 144 is in place, and security has been tightened around the ED office. The Opposition leaders have made the decision to visit the ED office in groups, file a complaint, and demand that the Adani-Hindenburg dispute be looked into.
The leaders had a meeting earlier in the day to plan their combined approach to the problem at Mallikarjun Kharge’s office, which is part of the Parliament House complex.
The Opposition has been requesting a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) inquiry into the Adani-Hindenburg controversy. American short seller Hindenburg Research had asserted that the Adani group was “involved in flagrant stock manipulation and accounting fraud”, and exploited offshore shell firms to raise stock prices. The Adani group refuted the charges, calling them “malicious”, “baseless” and a “planned assault on India”.
