Ranchi, July 14: Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) has provided convenience to urban commercial consumers regarding the installation of smart meters. The work of installing smart metres for consumers will start on August 15.

However, if a non-commercial consumer wants to install a smart metre in his house, he can apply online through the facility portal by visiting www.jbvnl.co.in. and it will be installed in his house immediately.

KK Verma, Chief Engineer of JBVNL, spoke to lagatar24.com and said that these smart prepaid metres are going to make billing a lot easier than the current method of door-to-door metre reading.

“The consumer will need to do recharge in advance just like the prepaid sim in phones. This is a way to save us from losses, energy theft, and loss of revenue. We are planning to undefined 3.50 lakh prepaid metres by the end of this year,” he said.

The smart prepaid metres will have the necessary technical specifications and will also have software to protect them from getting hacked by hackers.

In the first phase, which will begin from June 1st, smart prepaid metres will be installed in the Main Road and Upper Market areas of Ranchi for about 30,000 commercial consumers.

Notably, complaints related to electricity can also be lodged through the Suvidha portal. Common electricity consumers can also register complaints related to electricity and electricity bills through the portal.

Their complaints will be forwarded online to the division and subdivision of the area concerned. Also, after their complaints are resolved, the information will be given to the consumers on their mobile number or online.

Smart metres for consumers will be installed completely free of charge. No amount will be charged for this. If any person or the people of the concerned agency demand any money in return, then a complaint can be made to JBVNL. Action will be taken against the person or agency concerned immediately.
