Jamshedpur, Jan 5: Those who are compelled to live a dangerous life with power lines drawn through bamboo poles in their slums and villages surrounding the steel city will start getting electricity supply in a safe and hazard-free way soon.

The Jharkhand Bijli Vitaran Nigam Ltd (JBVNL) which provides electricity to such downtrodden people has taken initiative to fix regular power poles and spread a network of standard AB Cables in those areas.

Revealing the development, general manager-cum-chief engineer, of JBVNL’s Singhbhum area board, Paritosh Kumar said that the work of replacing the bamboo poles with the PCC poles will be carried out under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) of the central government.

“The power board has already identified the areas where the consumers are compelled to use electricity drawn through the bamboo poles. A project report concerning the work has already been made. Tender for the project will soon be floated, ” said Kumar while talking to lagatar24.com.

The general manager-cum-chief engineer pointed out that once the tender process gets through the job of fixing PCC poles and cable-drawing work will be done quickly as the work under the RDSS is carried out aggressively.

It may be mentioned here that scores of slums and villages under the Mango and Jamshedpur divisions of the JBVNL are electrified at high risk. Though the power board takes the payment against electricity bills from those ill-fated consumers, it had continued to overlook their predicament of them.

Subodh Gorai, one of the residents of Namotola in the suburban Parsudih area said they have to replace a bamboo pole every six months by contributing to the Namotola Slum Committee.

“We have to replace the existing bamboo poles with new ones, but also have to replace the cables once a year so as to evade any mishap. During the rainy season, we have to take extra care of the poles and cables, ” narrated Gorai while talking to this correspondent.

The disgruntled Gorai said the residents of Namotola had lodged complaints with the JBVNL authority in Jamshedpur time and again, but to no effect.
