New Delhi, Dec.27: Mahendra Prasad, a Rajya Sabha MP from the Janata Dal(United) and an industrialist, died on Monday while undergoing treatment in a private hospital.

81 years old Mahendra Prasad passed away on Sunday night after a long battle with sickness.

He served in the Rajya Sabha for seven terms and was elected to the Lok Sabha once.

Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar offered his sympathies on the passing of Mahendra Prasad, the founder of Aristo Pharmaceuticals, saying that his death is a great loss to society, politics, and industry.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed condolences at his death.

Modi said, “Saddened by the passing away of Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Mahendra Prasad Ji. He served in Parliament for many years and was at the forefront of several community service efforts. He always spoke for the welfare of Bihar and its people. Condolences to his family. Om Shanti.”

In 1980, Mahendra Prasad was elected to the Lok Sabha on a Congress ticket for the first time. He remained faithful to the party for a long time before shifting his allegiances when the party’s chances in the state deteriorated.

He became a member of the Janata Dal and subsequently its offshoots, the Rashtriya Janata Dal and then the Janata Dal (U). His name was frequently prefixed with “King,” a reference to his immense wealth and the fact that any change in the political climate in his home state had little impact on him, as he had been in the Rajya Sabha since 1985, with only brief interruptions.
