Ranchi, March 22: The court of Additional Judicial Commissioner Vishal Shrivastava in Jharkhand capital today awarded 10- year jail term to two former Congress party legislators, Yogendra Sao and his wife Nirmala Devi, for waging war against police personnel on duty.
The duo, who are parents of sitting Congress party legislator Amba Prasad, was convicted on March 22.
The case arose in 2016 after the couple was staging a demonstration on the road specified for transportation of coal produced from NTPC mines in Chirudih. Police arrested Nirmala Devi but their supporters attacked people and rescued Devi from police custody. In the incident, several police personnel sustained injuries.
The argument in the case concluded on March 8. The prosecution produced as many as 20 witnesses while as many as seven witnesses were produced from the defence side.
