Dhanbad, Sept 5: A total of nine MBBS seats under the state quota remained vacant in the medical colleges of Jharkhand after the second counselling, which concluded on Monday evening.
According to a state health department official, the highest three MBBS seats each are vacant in Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) Jamshedpur and Phulo Jhano Medical Colleges Hospital (PJMCH) Dumka.
One seat each was left vacant for admission at Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad, Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) Hazaribag and Medinirai Medical Colleges Hospital (MMCH) Palamu.
All the five medical colleges have permission of 100 MBBS seats each out of which 15 seats are reserved under the all India quota and two seats for the central government nominees. The State quota has a total of 415 MBBS seats (83 seats in each medical college) for admissions.
Dr SK Singh, principal of SBMCH Hazaribag (also the director of medical education of the health department) said that after the second counselling total of 82 candidates out of 83 took admission in the institution and only one seat is left vacant.
SNMMCH admission in-charge Dr Ganesh Kumar, when contacted, said that only one seat of reserved handicapped quota remained vacant while 82 students took admission. MNCH Palamu admission in-charge Dr Atul Prakash said a total of 82 out of 83 (state quota) enrolled after the second counselling which concluded on Monday evening. “The remaining one seat would be filled up in the mop-up round,” he said.
Dr KN Singh, principal MGMMCH Jamshedpur, said that a total of 91 candidates out of 100 seats have taken admission in the institution including 80 (out of 83 seats) on state quota, one on central government nominee seat and 10 (out of 15) under the all India quota.
Three vacant seats under the state quota in MGMMCH after the second counselling admission has surprised all. After RIMS Ranchi, MGMMCH Jamshedpur is the first choice of students.
At PJMCH Dumka a total of 80 candidates took admission after the second counselling under the state quota. Dr Arun Kumar Choudhary said 74 students had taken admission in the first counselling and six candidates in the second counselling which concluded on Monday.
