Ranchi, Dec 28: Riya Kumari, an actress from Jharkhand, was shot dead by looters on NH 6 in Bagnan, West Bengal’s Howrah district on Wednesday. The incident occurred when Riya, along with her husband and daughter was travelling from Ranchi to Kolkata in a car.

According to Prakash Kumar’s testimony to the police, he stopped the car near the Mahishrekha bridge in the Bagnan neighbourhood of the Howrah district to answer the nature’s call. Soon after that, three criminals carrying weapons approached them with a purpose to rob them.

After the thieves shot Riya near her ear, her husband Prakash Kumar alerted the people present. Police responded to the call and transported her to Ulubedia Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Riya has appeared in films made in Jharkhand’s regional language. She was referred to as Isha Alia.

Prakash Kumar is being questioned by the police as part of the ongoing investigation.
