New Delhi, Dec 28: Arshdeep Singh, a left-arm pacer for India, was included in the list of nominees for the ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year award on Wednesday along with Finn Allen, Marco Jansen, and Ibrahim Zadran.
According to an ICC press statement, voting for the award will start in January. Less than six months after making his international debut, Arshdeep has made the shortlist. The bowler recorded 33 wickets at an 18.12 average in 21 T20 Internationals while making significant contributions with both the new and old ball. The left-arm fast joined India’s national system following a successful IPL career, and he made the most of the opportunity as the team sought to recover from a poor 2021 T20 World Cup.
On India’s most recent tour to New Zealand, Arshdeep was also given an ODI cap, and the 23-year-old has a promising future. Arshdeep produced standout performances in a short period of time, especially in the intense T20 World Cup match against Pakistan at the MCG.
Arshdeep dismissed both members of Pakistan’s productive opening combination with his swing and pace options. After dismissing Mohammad Rizwan at the end of his subsequent over, he claimed Babar Azam with his first ball, adjudicating him leg before wicket.
Asif Ali’s hopes for a late onslaught were thwarted by Arshdeep, who came back at the very end and finished with 3/32 from his four overs allotted. Along with another left-arm quick from South Africa named Jansen, an offensive starter from New Zealand named Allen, and an Afghan batter named Zadran, Arshdeep is up for the prize.
