Dhanbad, Aug 12: All five State-run medical colleges on Saturday observed Anti-Ragging Day and chalked out a week-long programme on merely 12 hours short notice from the National Medical Commission (NMC).
The NMC Anti-Ragging Committee on Friday late evening mailed to the principals of medical colleges to observe ‘Ragging Day’ on August 12 and celebrate it till August 18.
After getting the mail, the Jharkhand government- owned all the five medical colleges swung into action early morning today and organized a series of programmes.
SNMMCH principal Dr Jyotiranjan Prasad set up 9- member special committee under Dr CD Ram as coordinator to observe the Anti- Ragging Day.
Dr Phani Bhushan, Dr Raj Kumar, Dr Leena Singh, Dr Suchita Singh, Dr PS Suman and Dr Veent Tigga are other members who would carry out the programme till August 18.
Dr Phani Bhushan said that the programme started with an orientation in which students were informed about negative impact of ragging through video. “ “We informed them 36 students across the country have lost their life from ragging and explained them what mental pressure comes on a victim,” said Dr Phani Bhushan.
At SBMCH Hazaribagh, Principal Dr SK Singh said the Anti-Ragging Day was being observed under supervision of Dr Dhananjay.
He said that the institution has already an anti-ragging committee formed in 2019. “An orientation programme was organized today for awareness of students,” said Dr Singh. The Principal has also invited students to join in anti-ragging poster making, essay writing and logo designing competitions. Interested MBBS students have been directed to consult Anti- Ragging Committee convener Dr Ashish Kumar Biswas (associate professor pharmacology).
PJMCH Dumka Principal Dr Arun Kumar Choudhary said that in the wake of the NMC letter the Anti- Ragging Day is being observed by organizing different programmes. “Besides it, we have circulated and written telephone numbers of committee members for students to inform if they feel ragging act. Moreover, senior students are also being informed about action for ragging,” he said.
The Anti- Ragging Day was also observed at MGMMCH Jamshedpur and MMCH Palamu. MMCH Principal Kamendra Prasad said that as per the NMC directive programmes started in the morning.
