Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2024: Voting Underway for 38 Seats, 61.47% Turnout Recorded Till 3 PM

RANCHI: Voting for the second and final phase of the Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2024 is underway across 38 constituencies under tight security. By 3 PM, a voter turnout of 61.47% was recorded, reflecting significant public enthusiasm.

This phase sees 528 candidates, including 472 male and 55 female contenders, vying for seats across 27 general, 3 SC, and 8 ST constituencies. Over 1.23 crore voters are expected to cast their ballots at 14,219 polling booths, monitored via webcasting at the State Election Commission and district offices.

Key Highlights of Voting Progress

•Turnout till 3 PM:

Constituencies with the highest turnout include Maheshpur (74%), Nala (72.34%), and Silli (71.26%), while Dhanbad (45.14%) and Bokaro (46.43%) reported relatively lower figures.

•Turnout till 1 PM:

Voting reached 47.92% by early afternoon, with notable participation in Littipara (53.52%) and Silli (56.50%).

•Turnout till 11 AM:

Early hours saw 31.37% voter participation, with Khijri (33.04%) and Jama (34.13%) leading.

•Turnout till 9 AM:

Morning turnout was 12.71%, showcasing early enthusiasm in Maheshpur (17.52%) and Silli (17.02%).

Incidents of Disruption

•Khijri Booth No. 210: Tensions flared when a webcasting employee’s motorcycle, adorned with a political party flag, raised suspicions of EVM tampering. The individual was detained and questioned, with police clarifying the flag was from a prior event.

Prime Minister Modi’s Appeal

PM Modi urged citizens to actively participate in the elections, calling it a “festival of democracy.” He emphasized the significance of each vote in empowering the state.

Interesting Facts

•The highest number of voters is in Bokaro (5.84 lakh), while the lowest is in the reserved seat of Littipara (2.17 lakh).

•Among the candidates is Ashwini Ambedkar, a third-gender contestant from Giridih.
