Dhanbad, Feb 10: The Jharkhand Badminton Association (JBA) today sent show-cause notice to Jamshedpur based two senior badminton players of the state namely Suraj Pratap Singh and Sadan Ahmad Khan for participating in an unauthorized tournament.
Dipak Kumar Jha, Chairman of the JBA state disciplinary committee (SDC), while giving the notice, has given them 10 days for providing clarification after receiving the letter.
Both the senior players had allegedly participated in an unauthorized badminton championship in East Singhbhum district in the first week of January 2022. Several registered players of state had sought action against them for violation of national and state body rules.
JBA SDC chairman in his notice served to the fathers (guardians) of both the players- Pravin Kumar Singh (father of Suraj Pratap Singh) and Imran Khan (father of Sadan Ahmad Khan). In the notice, he has said that as per the rule of the Badminton Association of India (BAI) and Jharkhand Badminton Association (JBA) a registered player can’t participate in any unauthorized/ unregistered. The JBA has time and again informed players.
“Last month in January 2022 someone had organized a badminton tournament in East Singhbhum which was unregistered by the state body. You both and your wards (Suraj and Sadan) were aware of it (about an unregistered tournament) and despite that, they participated. This was a complete violation of the rules of BAI and JBA. So you are advised to clarify as to why disciplinary action against your wards should not be taken,” said Dipak Kumar Jha, who is also vice-president of Jharkhand badminton Association, in his notice served today.
In three years, this is the second time the JBA has initiated disciplinary action against senior players. In 2019, the JBA had expelled senior players of Dhanbad for participating in an unregistered tournament.
Last year (2021) a parallel state badminton body was formed in Jamshedpur and also organized a tournament. JBA secretary K Prabhakar Rao, who is also joint secretary of the National body, had warned registered players of the state from participating in the unauthorized tournament.
