Ranchi, Aug.22: The five-page suicide note which Bank of India probationary officer (PO) Supriyo Majumdar left before committing suicide on Sunday has exposed loopholes in the bank administration and suggests how an innocent employee was first misused there for promotion of corruption and then left alone to fight a lonely battle in case of legal complications.
The suicide note suggests that Majumdar, who had joined the banking service in 2015, during his training period at Ramgarh Cant branch of his bank was instructed to process loan, conduct pre-sanction and post sanction inspections in the course of large scale financing of tankers despite his rejection of loan proposal.
“………During my initial probation period I was allotted duties in the credit (loan) section of the branch. ……………The then credit manager ( (B.K.Singh), then functioning as credit head in the capacity of Sr Manager (credit)and then branch manager (Prafulla Kumar Behra), then functioning as chief manager, misused their official position and indulged in large scale financing of tankers. Despite my rejection, I was instructed to process loans and conduct pre-sanction inspection and few post-sanction inspections of tankers. This was full violation of extant rules and guidelines of the banks, which I was not aware of due to my inexperience and the concerned circular was withheld by the above two authorities………,” para-2 of first page of five-page suicide note reads.
Majumdar in his suicide not expressed his concern over his bank’s attitude of not supporting him despite a clean chit from the CBI in the tanker loan sanctioning fraud case and asked the bank authorities to think over it to ensure that no other innocent worker commit suicide coming under pressure.
“My biggest regret ever is that in this hour of distress and mental trauma, I received no help or assistance from my bank (Bank of India), an institution I served with full honesty, integrity and passion and dedication through the years since the day I joined duties. I hope the bank management reads this letter and ensures no other staff, who are innocent, end up fighting a lonely battle despite giving their all to the bank. Regret your actions and take remedial measures. Forget me as an insignificant being, who deserved no support from you in spite of my honesty, integrity and loyalty..” first paragraph of the fifth page of suicide note reads.
