Jharkhand: Biswajit Chatterjee of West Singhbhum bags open blitz chess title

Dhanbad, Jan 30: Biswajit Chatterjee of West Singhbhum bagged the title of the prestigious 5th Open Blitz Chess tournament organised by Jamshedpur Chess Academy in Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industries.

Though  Biswajit Chatterjee and the top-rated player of the tournament Rohan Shandilya Vijay (1913) of Jamshedpur got equal nine points in 10-round, Biswajit (1875) was declared champion on basis of a tie-breaker.

This was Biswajit’s first title after four years. Last time he emerged as champion in the 2019 Rapid Chess Tournament organised by JCA.  He got a cash prize of Rs 10,000 while Rohan was given a second prize of Rs 5,000.

Notably, Harsh Kumar Jha of East Singhbhum and Raja Bose of Dhanbad also got eight points each but Harsh Kumar got the third position and Raja Bose slipped to the fourth position on basis of the tie-breaker. Both got a cash prize of Rs 4,000 and Rs 3,500 respectively.

Singh Ankit Kumar of Saraikela Kharsawa with 7.5 points bagged the fifth position and a cash prize of  Rs 3,000.

Nine players Arpit Anand (Deoghar), Krishna Kundan (Garhwa), Rajesh Kumar, KK Debnath (West Singhbhum), Krishna Kumar Saw (Dhanbad), Manish Sharma (WS), Debanjan Sinha, Rohit (East Singhbhum) and Vaibhav Sah got seven points each and got sixth to 14th position.

JCA president Prashant Kumar Singh (Putul) said that a total of 103 top-ranking players had participated. Besides 20 top players in senior prizes and trophies were also given to champion in different age group events. 

Boys under 7  champion Rudra Nil Roy, Darsh Sandilya, Ridhan Goel. Girls under 9 Anishka, Bidushi Munshi,  Eshani Choudhary,  Under-9 boys- Mayan Jha, Adrij Mohanty, Advik Kumar.

Under 11 girls  Navieka Jaiswal, Monali Biswas, Ishani Sharma, under 11 boys Reyansh Jagnani, Rishab Kumar, Surya  Kant Sharma, Under 13 girls  Prgya Bhardwaj, Samridhi Majumdar, palak Agrawal, under 13 boys Debangshu Haldar, Bedant Rajesh, Chaitanya.

In the closing ceremony, Deoghar Chess association president Sunil Khaware was the chief guest and gave away prizes.
