Ranchi, Feb.18: BIT, Mesra, which has been selected as one of the 75 centres across the country for ‘Vigyan Sarvatra Pujyate’ programme will give an opportunity to school and college students to visit its five laboratories to get inspired to study science.
The opportunity will be given from February 22 to February 28 after Governor Ramesh Bais declares the said programme open at 10.30 am on February 22. The laboratory will remain open for college and school students from 10am to 5.30pm.
The purpose of giving the opportunity is to create interest in the younger generation in science. The laboratories which will be opened include rocketry, architecture, remote sensing and core engineering groups.
Registrar of the engineering institute Colonel (retd) Sukhpal Singh Khetarpal informed this saying apart from giving the opportunity to visit laboratories several other arrangements are being done in the institute to ensure that young minds can realize the importance of science.
The programmes, he said, include science exhibitions, science book fairs, posters, science models, start-up showcases and films among others.
BIT news and promotion society member Proj Vijay Nath said that proper attention will be given to the poor students whose access to quality laboratories is limited.
Established in 1955 by industrialist B.M Birla, BIT Mesra was founded with a clear vision to offer its young mind a space, where their imagination could take wings and their ideas fruition. For over 6 decades now, the institute has nurtured minds with a rich heritage of academic excellence, developing learning frameworks that have been well ahead of times.
From its inception till date, the institute successfully conceived and implemented initiatives that have culminated in many firsts. It is the first technical institution to establish a Department of Space Engineering & Rocketry way back in 1964. It is the first to establish a static rocket test firing facility.
It is the first to offer P.G. programmes in association with the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). It initiated the concept of Science & Technology Entrepreneurs Park (BIT-STEP) well before it was adopted as a national model. It is the first institution to be granted autonomous status in 1972 under UGC Act.
