Ranchi: The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Jharkhand on May 4 and 5, warning of strong winds, thunderstorms, and possible hailstorms across several districts following recent spells of rain and fluctuating temperatures.
Heavy Rainfall and Weather Activity Intensify
Over the past 24 hours, multiple regions recorded light to moderate rainfall, with Chakulia in East Singhbhum receiving the highest at 33.6 mm. Hailstorms were reported in Ranchi and Bokaro, while Lathehar and Jamshedpur also saw notable rainfall. Temperatures ranged from a high of 38.6°C in Daltonganj to a low of 17.7°C in Lathehar.
Orange Alert Across Multiple Districts
Districts including Sahibganj, Pakur, Godda, Dumka, Deoghar, Jamtara, Giridih, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Dhanbad, Ranchi, Lohardaga, Gumla, and Khunti are under orange alert, with wind speeds expected to reach 50–60 km/h along with thunderstorms and hail. On May 5, similar conditions are likely in eastern and central parts, including Ranchi, Jamshedpur, and Dhanbad.
Yellow Alert to Continue Till May 9
Other districts such as Palamu, Garhwa, Chatra, and Latehar remain under yellow alert, with slightly lower wind speeds of 40–50 km/h expected. From May 6 to 9, a statewide yellow alert will remain in effect, indicating continued unstable weather conditions.
Advisory Issued for Residents
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, avoid open areas during storms, and take necessary precautions against lightning and strong winds. In Ranchi and nearby regions, partly cloudy skies with intermittent rain and temperatures between 21°C and 33°C are expected through the week.
