Ranchi: On the 10th day of the Jharkhand Assembly’s budget session, BJP leader Neera Yadav raised concerns about the deteriorating state of the education sector, supporting a cut motion proposal. She alleged that students’ futures are being pushed into darkness due to the government’s negligence.
Yadav pointed out that many schools lack teachers, forcing one teacher to teach all subjects. According to her, 3.78 lakh students are enrolled in these schools, yet 372 schools have no students enrolled at all.
She further claimed that 1,153 teachers are employed in these schools, but no teacher recruitments have taken place since 2019, despite the last round of hiring occurring between 2015 and 2019. She criticized the state government for the rising dropout rate among students as they progress to higher classes.
In response, Congress MLA Louis Marandi countered Yadav’s claims, stating that the current state of education reflects BJP’s tenure, and that the Hemant Soren government is actively working towards improvement.
Schools Facing Administrative Chaos
Yadav took a dig at the Jharkhand Education Project Council, saying its name should be changed to Jharkhand Education Publication Center, given the excessive WhatsApp messages sent to teachers. She alleged that salary cutsare imposed if teachers fail to check these messages.
Lack of Infrastructure in Schools
Neera Yadav further highlighted several deficiencies in school infrastructure, particularly concerning:
• Kitchen Facilities: Over 1,000 schools were supposed to have functional kitchens, but their condition remains pathetic.
• Scholarships: There is no transparency in how many students have benefitted from the Manki Munda Scholarship Scheme.
• Teacher Recruitment: 26,001 teacher posts remain vacant.
• Promotions: Teachers have not received promotions in 17 years.
Higher Education in Decline
She also raised concerns about the state of higher education, stating that:
• Many universities lack Vice-Chancellors.
• University rankings are declining.
• Several professor posts remain vacant.
• Contractual teachers are working under poor conditions.
• Degree colleges are struggling due to lack of grants.
She concluded by stating that the education system in Jharkhand is in a dire state, and immediate action is needed to rectify the situation.
