Ranchi, Oct 4: Cardinal Telesphore Toppo, Asia’s first tribal bishop and Jharkhand Ratna awardee, died at the age of 84 at Linvas Hospital in Mandar.
According to doctors, he was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday due to water entering his lungs. He had been ill for a long time. On Tuesday, when his health suddenly worsened, he was admitted to a nearby hospital where the doctors kept him on the ICU ventilator.
Telesphore Toppo was a man of spiritual life. Orderliness and regularity were his hallmarks. His honesty, humility, simple life, generosity, calm nature, courage, and self-confidence reflected his personality.
Despite his busy schedule and illness, he always found time for the Holy Eucharist, the Rosary, and the prayers of the Church.
He lived a spiritual life and believed in simple and noble thoughts. He was rich in qualities such as prayer and faith. His trust was in the scriptures. He always stood strong in unity and strengthened the church. He had a love for the holy scriptures and had deep devotion in his pure heart, along with affection for Mother Mary.
