Ranchi, Sept.2:  The police in Chatra are likely to submit a charge sheet before the stipulated time limit of 90 days in the acid attack case.

A police official informed this saying that the police is leaving no stone unturned to ensure proper conviction of the accused Sandeep Bharti , who was arrested on August 5 , the same day when he committed the crime and was produced before the court from where he was sent to sub divisional jail.

Chatra SP Rakesh Ranjan supported the information. Without giving any deadline, he said: “Case is under investigation. We will try to fast track the case.”

Meanwhile, locality residents shared the circumstances under which the attack occurred.

“Bharti (25), a scheduled caste youth, fell in love with the minor girl belonging to the backward community when he was assisting his father Ram Jatan Bharti, whom the girl’s father had called to work as mason for house construction. He had eloped with the girl and solemnised marriage.  Villagers opposed the marriage as it was an inter-caste one and against the set practice of the village. The marriage broke up and finally took an ugly turn when the youth committed acid attack.  The attack was made when the girl was sleeping with her mother.  The girl and her mother both came under attack. The mother sustained minor injury while the girl sustained major burn injuries,” a locality resident said.

The resident said the girl  before landing at AIIMS for better treatment reached RIMS on August 7 via Magadh Medical College in Gaya. “The credit for her proper treatment goes to Ankita Singh who succumbed to her burn injury at RIMS and the government cutting a sorry figure in the political circle thought it proper to send the Chatra girl outside the state,” the resident said.

Though officer-in -charge of Hunterganj police station Police Sanoj Kumar Choudhary rubbished the story saying ‘though the matter is under investigation our primary investigation suggests that acid attack is the outcome of one-sided love.”

“The youth wanted to marry the girl without her consent. When the girl refused, the youth attacked her with acid,” OC Choudhary said.
